When children and young people are poorly served by their life circumstances, live in poverty or have had adverse childhood experiences, ill-health, bereavement or mental health difficulties, among other challenges, they are vulnerable to underachievement in schools. Resources in this section are intended to support teachers to find ways to identify and address students' needs so as to remove barriers and close the gap between vulnerable pupils and their peers.
Access the useful EEF guidance document for whole-school leadership around Using the Pupil Premium and notice the emphasis on improving literacy, vocabulary and oracy for disadvantaged pupils. The importance of learning behaviours, metacognition and self-regulation for all students, and particularly for vulnerable students is also highlighted and explored in the relevant reports.
