HIAS Example Learning Journeys
The HIAS approach to planning learning journeys inspired by rich texts includes sequenced opportunities to:
- immerse children in the world of the text they are reading
- develop ideas and understanding of the content they will write about
- grow their vocabulary
- explore exemplar texts
- explicitly teach and deliberately practice elements of writing at sentence level and paragraph level
- model, share and guide writing
- draft, review and edit writing.
Please find below some examples of planning following the HIAS learning journey approach. These plans have been created by HIAS English advisers during their work in schools. They are specific to the cohort and therefore based on prior learning and AfL.
If you are interested in using the model and want more examples, a number of generic learning journeys with guidance materials are available for each year group through subscription to Moodle+ .
