    Reading Ride-Along!

    Hampshire’s strong foundations in reading project for the academic year 2026-2027 

    This project is for all schools looking to build expertise and improve provision for struggling readers across the school.

    Led jointly by Jo Kenyon (Inspector/Adviser for English, HIAS) and Jacqui Moller-Butcher (Assistant Headteacher, Alderwood Senior School), the project provides monthly training and support to develop your school’s reading programme at a manageable pace.

    Monthly CPD with its head in the research and 
    feet in the classroom 

    Starting with a two-hour launch webinar on 22 September (2-4pm), the project provides: 

    • a one hour after-school webinar once a month across the school year 2026-2027 – a different day of the week 
      every time to minimise disruption to meetings and after-school activities
    • webinar provision that allows the school to decide whether this is CPD for the literacy leader, the English leader, the whole English department, the SENCo, the SEN support team – or all of these  
    • practical strategies, including demonstrations and walk-throughs
    • manageable gap tasks each month to complete in school
    • the opportunity to visit Alderwood School and see effective reading provision in action
    • the chance to be part of a developing community of practice in Hampshire, sharing insights and supporting each other.
