The guidance document, Universally Speaking, provides detailed expectations for speaking and listening at different ages and can be used to develop understanding of progression in oracy. Bear in mind that the descriptions of expectations are for natural communication; expectations for classroom oracy in situations where talk is explicitly being taught can and should be pitched higher.
